He studied Computer Science at the University of Milan and computational theory of automatic learning at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, where he obtained a Ph.D. His interests, at the interface between computer science and statistics, are attributed today to the "Data Science" area. Over the last 10 years he has worked with particular passion on robust statistical methods, by developing applications to identify potential frauds and other anomalies in international trade data. He is currently working at the European Commission's Joint Research Center.
